Napster has been selected by Japanese e-commerce leader, Rakuten, to scale its on-demand music streaming catalog. A new partnership with Japanese internet services company Rakuten, Inc was announced by Napster today which is meant for enhancing Rakuten’s on-demand audio streaming service: Rakuten Music.
Napster will provide song playback and curated playlists from its catalog to Rakuten Music and a total of 20 million songs will be added by fall 2017. Other collaborations are also being worked on to enhance the features of Rakuten Music service. Streaming services are beginning to gain momentum in Japan where CDs and other physical formats still dominate the music industry.
