FTP or File Transfer Protocol is used to transfer files between two computers over a network and Internet. FTP uses a client-server architecture. It is often secured with SSL/TLS. FTP works in the same way as HTTP for transferring Web pages from a server to a user’s browser. By using FTP, a client can download, upload, rename, delete, copy and move files on a server. Typically, a user needs to log on to the FTP server for any kind of file transfer. However, some servers make all or some of their content available without login, also known as anonymous FTP.
