After attracting over 80,000 users in South Africa, Vodacom plans to expand its video-on-demand (VOD) services, Video Play to other countries in Africa now. The launch comes backed by a mobile app launch in August 2015 by Vodacom, which has experienced quite good response than anticipated.

Video Play is a little different than other VOD services. The service also bills in minutes rather than megabytes and the users have to pre-pay for a bundle of minutes.

Vodacom’s CEO Shameel Joosub said in his CEO statement that providing digital content has become imperative for growth. They have ambitious plans to bring targeted content for their audience including music streaming, TV, Video and Gaming. They also plan to add more local and international video content to their current library.
