According to Frost & Sullivan, there is a lot of buzz around sports on demand and its potential for video on demand platforms in South Africa. However, since big pay TV providers such as MultiChoice can easily afford to buy broadcasting rights to stream major sports on pay TV are gaining advantage over small players looking to enter the VOD market for streaming sports.
Another hurdle the research highlights is the high cost of data and until the data becomes more affordable for masses in SA, VOD platforms might have to face issues bringing sports on demand.
