According to a recent Juniper Research study, Mobile and M2M devices will generate equivalent to 14 billion hours of 4K video streaming by 2018, principally driven by mobile video uptake. The UK analysts forecast that the annual cellular data traffic will reach 129,000 petabytes (PB) by 2018.

The research also predicts that as 4K content becomes more widely available, the average data usage will increase leading to about threefold rise in cellular traffic exceeding 318,000PB by 2021. The mobile video is more likely to account for 60% of global mobile data traffic in 2017, before reaching 80% in 2021.
