The attraction of TV streaming services is the main reason cited by the Malta Communications Authority for a rise in faster broadband subscriptions.

The pay TV sector held by telcos GO and Melita has witnessed its subscriber base shrinking by 1.1% year-on-year going from 149,378 subscriptions at the end of 2015 to 147,756 subscriptions at the end of the current reporting period.

The rising proportion of end-users buying their pay TV service in a bundle is another noticeable trend.

Pay TV subscriptions bought in a bundle rose by 4.4 percentage points between 2015 and 2016 from 56% to 60.4%.

Download speeds of 30Mbps or higher are being supported by fixed broadband subscriptions that account for 59.4% of the local fixed broadband subscriber base.

Fixed broadband in a bundle with subscriptions went up from 72.7% at the end of 2015 to 78.7% at the end of last yearRead More
