By Q3, 2017 Portugal Pay-TV subscribers reached 3.8 million, at an increase of 33,000 over Q3,2016 and of 116,000 year-on-year. That’s a growth rate of 3.2%. According to National Communications Authority (Anacom) the growth is being attributed to the 27.3% growth of fibre technology (FTTH/B).

With this FTTH/B becomes the second most popular Pay-TV distribution technology at 33.4% led only by Cable at 36.1%, while xDSL and DTH follow at 15.7% and 14.8%, respectively. The popularity of streaming services such as Netflix, Fox Play, NPlay (NOS) or Amazon Prime Video, continues to grow in Portugal. At the end of September 2017, 5.5% of residents aged 10 years and above, subscribed to at least one of these services.
