Google owned video streaming platform, YouTube is all set to bring its YouTube Originals to India. The India Originals will be YouTube’s ad-supported video platform. But on later stage, an ad-free subscription service, YouTube Premium might get launched.
The recent rise of online streaming platforms such as Amazon, Hotstar and Netflix, among Indian audiences have prompted many over-the-top companies to invest heavily on streaming platforms.
Satya Raghavan, Entertainment Head, YouTube India quoted, “The company is looking at multiple formats for original content in the country at a time when it is attracting 245 million unique users each month. We feel this is the right time to bring Originals to India. It will boost the overall online video ad spends and drive more advertisers to connect with consumers through these shows. For instance, 60% of our watch time comes from outside of the six largest metro areas.”
