Canada Bell to move towards OTT

The latest from North American telecom: Canada’s Bell, is that it will deliver an over-the-top (OTT) video service with an app-based mobile platform from $14.95 a month and will include 30 channels plus all major Canadian and U.S broadcast network’s video content.

iOS and Android mobile devices as well as fourth-generation Apple TV devices, Fibe Alt TV are some of the supported platforms and this service can be accessible by only qualifying Bell’s Fibe wireline high-speed internet service subscribers in Ontario and Quebec. According to Multichannel News, Alt TV provides only limited support and excludes support to several features found in Bell’s linear Fibe TV service including 4K delivery and DVR functionality. Alt TV supports pay-per-view and has access to Bell’s VOD library. In the first quarter, 22,402 customers subscribed to Fibe TV and the number increased to 2.83 million video subscribers at the end of the period. Read More
