Hong Kong’s largest music and DVD retailer HMV Digital China Group has launched an online bilingual video streaming platform – “Hmvod” in order to compete with Netflix and other video streaming services in Hong Kong. The new OTT service offers 1,500 films and plans to expand further by 2018, offering 5,000 videos from Hong Kong productions to Hollywood movies.

The company said Hmvod will be a platform similar to Netflix but more Hong Kong eccentric offering local content for the audience. Hong Kong currently has four major video on demand providers including Netflix, China’s LeEco, TVB’s MY Super TV and PCCW’s ViuTV.
