Roshan Dwivedi Published on : 11 July 2016

VOD providers including Netflix, YouTube and Amazon will be forced to include more European content on their platforms under new rules being proposed by the European Commission (EC). Global video platforms may also have to contribute financially to other Europeans’ works under new audio-visual rules which are also being mooted by the EC.

The mandate is part of an updated Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD), part of the of its Digital Single Market strategy, which will refresh the common rules which have governed audiovisual media for almost 30 years. AVMSD was devised to ensure cultural diversity and the free circulation of content in the EU.
