ESPN announced the launch of its multi-platform strategy in Brazil. The sports channel is going to launch a new online video streaming service in partnership with broadband operators which will operate under the ESPN Play brand and will include content from TV Everywhere service WatchESPN that is available to pay TV subscribers. This new initiative will be available shortly on the Brazil’s top broadband providers. ESPN Play will include live events, in the different modalities, eSports, in addition to news programs like “Bate Bola” and “SportsCenter” along with a huge catalog of more than 600 videos on demand titles.

This new marketing model has been created after analysis of video consumption and market demand according to ESPN. Watch ESPN platform will include ESPN Play in a separate area. According to ESPN’s General Manager in Brazil, German Hartenstein, looking for an audience outside of pay TV made sense since ESPN’s online video service has 18 million subscribers and a 27% penetration whereas, in the United States, it reaches 90% of the households. He further stated their future goal includes roping in all fixed broadband brands to offer ESPN content. Read More
