Self-development and foreign language learning programs are far more popular than entertainment among on-demand videos, perhaps reflecting job insecurity during the slump.

LG Uplus, which launched its mobile VOD service in July last year, analyzed 14.25 million views over the last six months. The service offers around 150,000 programs to 9.3 million members, and an average of 2.3 million viewers access it each month.

People in their 40s and 50s rather than those in their teens and 20s are the most avid viewers of foreign-language study programs. Some 19.8 percent of their viewers are men in their 50s, followed by women in their 40s and 50s and men in their 40s.
