Swedish streaming giant, Spotify has announced the year’s first major feature announcement in a format called “Spotlight” that allows podcasters to complement their audio presentations with visual media. The media can be photos or text as well.

While the first Spotlight-enabled podcasts focus on music, pop culture, politics, and sports, other podcasts with specific topics will roll out soon.

Many of the first Spotlight podcasts come from current popular Spotify partners such as BuzzFeed News and Cheddar. Spotify is also offering Spotlight content from its original series as well.

Another interesting part of this development is that Spotlight has been introduced just ahead of the launch of an IPO and Spotify wants to reinvent the podcast before that.
