With Netflix making its foray in to Spain, the number crunching has begun on how Netflix will compete with other major European players in a volatile territory like Spain that has also been one of the major sources of piracy as well as mobile internet connectivity.
Popular TV app developer Fractal Media has estimated that about 5 million smart TVs have already been sold in Spain. Out of which, 79% of are connected to the internet. Since Netflix’s arrival, industry pundits have noted that Spain’s undeveloped OTT market is set to grow and expand.
Multiscreen viewers have always been the key for OTT platforms, but smart TVs also have a great role to play as distribution channels for producers.
