Sales of virtually reality (VR) headsets are off to a strong start in Australia having sold more than 200,000 units in 2016, according to a recent study by Telsyte. According to the AR & VR market study 2017, some 216,000 VR headsets sold in the calendar year 2016, with mobile VR taking up at some 70 % share of units sold.
Nearly half of the all device revenues were generated by Sony PlayStation VR, which is experiencing a strong initial demand from video gamers. According to Telsyte’s survey of Australian consumers (16+ years of age) half of those thinking of buying a VR headset are interested in using it for games, movies and other entertainment purposes.
