D2C or Direct 2 Customer offerings are being touted as the last nail on the coffin for linear TV channels. Not that it is very alarming at the moment, but with time it will surely impact the linear TV viewing. VOD services like HBO Now, Discovery DPlay and DisneyLife are leading the way on this.
The service that actually inspired the spree of these D2C offerings was Netflix. In 2013-2014, Netflix outspent almost everyone on original programming and content acquisition, with a budget that was almost the double of ITV and Amazon.
