According to the latest Digital TV Research forecast, the SVOD market in the Middle East and Africa is expected to grow ten times by 2021, from $124M in 2015 to $257M. Turkey is expected to maintain the top slot. From 2.79M homes this year, the number will rise to 19.59M across the region in the next 5 years.

Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research, said “Fixed broadband penetration is low in many of the region’s countries, so more OTT viewing will take place on smartphones.” The forecast also estimates that around 304M smartphone subscribers will be watching OTT video services and TV at least once a month by 2021 – a 300% growth in comparison to 2015.
