Sky is all set to launch an all-IP version of its service in Italy this April, which will enable viewers access pay TV channels and on-demand content without the help of a satellite dish.
Sky announced that the offering will be available first in Italy before foraying into Austria and other key markets. The IP version of Sky will be available through Sky Q platform which was launched in Italy in November last year.
According to Jeremy Darroch, CEO, Sky, the move is a “major development” for the company that will “open up headroom in existing markets for some customer segments.” He, further quoted, “Having deployed over-the-top services in all of our markets, we have a strong set of plans for our streaming business, most notably migrating all of our territories onto a common OTT platform.”
