According to reports, OTT services are growing in the sub-Saharan Africa region but structural changes in South Africa is a concern which is the dominant SVOD market in the continent.
While in the West paid online streaming services are gaining popularity with cord-cutters are growing in an all-time high, estimates for OTT subs in Sub-Saharan Africa range between 500,000 and 1.5 million at the end of 2017.
According to early forecast, there will be 9.99 million SVOD subs in Sub Saharan Africa by 2023. South Africa will account for 3.4 million of that total and Nigeria 2.6 million, together about 60% of the total.
