Tencent, the Chinese tech giant, launches its first video streaming service outside China, in an effort to expand its presence in the South-Asian countries. The streaming service will be first made available to Tencent’s existing user base in Thailand.

In Thailand, the brand will be termed as WETV and will mainly include video content from Tencent Penguin Pictures and other local contents dubbed in Thai language.

Jeff Han, Senior Vice President of Tencent Penguin Pictures commented: “Tencent’s existing Thai user base made the country a good first target for its push into Southeast Asia. This is the market we need to first enter to try to see whether an overseas launch could be a success for us, so we can continue the challenge.”
