Cisco VNI Video Viewing on the rise in MEA

81% of all internet traffic by 2021 in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region will be attributed to video, according to Cisco’s latest forecast.

In 2016, Internet video accounted for 62% of MEA’s internet traffic, however, only 21% of the total population were internet users.

According to a prediction by Cisco in its Visual Networking Index (VNI) forecast, internet usage will rise to only 28% of the population.

Some other stats from the forecast include:

  • 35GB internet traffic per month in MEA by 2021, an increase of 8GB from 2016.
  • Monthly internet traffic equivalent to 3 billion DVDs or 10.3 exabytes (EB) per month in MEA.
  • Increase in broadband speeds from 7.8Mbps last year to 17.1Mbps this year.
  • The average mobile speed is estimated to be 11Mbps in 2021 as opposed to an average of 3.8Mbps in 2016. Read More
