As internet penetration is increasing in India, users are expected to consume more data by 2022. A recent study says India’s data consumption will grow from the level of 71,67,103 million MB in 2017 to 10,96,58,793 million MB by 2022, at 72.6% CAGR.

The presence of Netflix, Prime Video, Hotstar, Eros Now, Viu, and other video streaming services pulls the average Indians to spend more time on mobile data. Nokia Mobile Broadband Index 2018 stated, video streaming constitutes 65-75% of traffic and is the main reason for the growth of internet connectivity in India.

“With lower than ever data tariffs and the increasing number of smartphone usage in the country, which is around 40 percent as of 2017, it is safe to assume that the Video on Demand (VoD) market will be a significant beneficiary of these developments. Internet consumption is clearly on the rise in India,” according to the Assocham-PwC study.
