Binge viewing on the rise

As per Frost & Sullivan’s recent analysis, Global Content Protection Market, Forecast to 2021, market revenues are set to grow from almost $1.7 billion in 2016 to just below $2 billion by 2021 at a compound annual rate (CAGR) OF 3.4%. The study looks at current revenues and future growth potential of the content protection market in IPTV, cable, satellite, direct-to-home (DTH) and other service (including online services and pay DTT); in terms of protection type (CAS,DRM and other) and by region (North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific).

Some important highlights from this report pointed towards growth opportunities in the Global Content Protection Market including the following:

Cable and IP upgrades: With cable network upgrades, quality of content increases, as does interactivity support. These head-end upgrades allow CAS switch-out whereas STB upgrades are responsible for unit sales.

Cardless CAS: Lower cost with an equivalent level of security to hardware CAS in provided by Cardless CAS in several use cases.
Multi-DRM: Multi-DRM offers equivalence between linear broadcast and OTT/TVE for increasing on-demand, device-based viewing.
Secure Playback: This enables a secure, managed playback experience on devices in apps and browsers.

High-end Content Protection: Best available security is sought by top-tier DTH vendors thanks to the growth in 4k and early release pay-per-view (PPV).

Some issues remain in terms of support for older devices and different options for packet-level encryption with the advent of newer technology and standards that include the extinction of Flash and Smooth Streaming technologies, consolidation of HTML5/EME and advent of common media application format (CMAF) that connects HTTP live streaming (HLS) and dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH) which will address fragmentation on the DRM side.

Securing Content is key for any OTT platform which is why Muvi incorporates a Multi-DRM structure which ensures not only content security but also deliver of the same across multiple devices and browsers and thus ensures a uniform user experience irrespective of their device, browser or location.Muvi offers DRM protection with its intuitive CMS platform that lets you launch your own OTT Streaming Service instantly.
