Subscription Video on Demand continues to maintain its momentum with Netflix and Amazon leading in the first half of 2017 according to Futuresource Consulting’s latest bi-annual Living With Digital study.

Just under half of UK households and a quarter in France have atleast one SVOD subscription.

Compare this with 2/3rds of households in the US.

SVOD services were found to have more consumption in the US due to the wider availability of content and ability to access different content on different services.

In the international market outiside the USA for Netflix, over 3/5th of 16-35 year olds use the SVOD service.

There is huge opportunity in the segment of over 35 year olds that use Netflix.
27% of subscribers in Germany opted for Netflix’s premium plan.

According to the survey, this growth for Netflix has been due to the number of original TV shows being introduced in all countries, the prominent increases being in USA, Italy and Spain.

Netflix’s competitor Amazon has also performed well so far in 2017 with its Prime service. 2/3rds of those surveyed in the US use Prime, the subscribers of Prime in Germany being 50%. In France almost one-quarter of households have Prime video subscription.
