According to a research carried out for mobile retailer Carphone Warehouse, amongst the wide variety of apps used by UK consumers for watching video on their smartphones, YouTube and BBC iPlayer are the most preferred apps.

About 68% of UK consumers have YouTube app installed on their phone which makes it the third most downloaded app. BBC Media Player and iPlayer apps are downloaded on 31% of phones leaving behind rival broadcast apps ITV Player which is on 12% of phones, All4 which is on 11% and Sky Go which is on 10%.

Surprisingly Netflix app is downloaded on 9% of phones which makes it trail behind Lovefilm by Post app for renting DVDs which is on 15% of phones in the UK. IMDB is at 8% amongst other video content-related apps.

It was found that 30% of 18-24 year olds were most likely to use video streaming apps. Highest in terms of popularity is Facebook, with Google Search and YouTube coming second and third respectively. Read More
