China, biggest contributor to Asia’s OTT growth

China is all set to become the biggest contributor for the OTT growth in Asia. Revenues from TV episodes and movies will hit $24.42 billion in 2022; triple of $8.27 billion as recorded in 2016.The total revenue will rise by almost $3 billion in 2017. China will occupy half of the OTT revenues of the 22 countries mentioned in the Asia Pacific OTT TV & Video Forecasts report by 2022. China and Japan will jointly account for two-thirds of the region’s total revenues by 2022.

China is expected to contribute to 61% of the region’s AVOD revenues by 2022 which represents $7.27 billion.
Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) revenues for Asia Pacific are set to climb from $3,388 million in 2016 to $9,090 million in 2022. China is all set to surpass Japan to become the SVOD revenue leader in 2017.

There’s going to be an estimated 234 million SVOD subs by 2022, a number up from 91 million in 2016 with China having 139 million SVOD subs in 2022. Japan and India will represent for another 50 million. The remainder of 44 million will be divided between the 19 remaining countries, as per Digital TV Research forecasts.

Subscriptions to SVOD package will be up by 2022 for a quarter of the region’s TV households, up from over a tenth at the end of 2016.
