Discovery aims to be the ‘Netflix of sport’

Discovery CEO and president David Zaslav said in an interview recently that Eurosport is all set to grab the opportunity of sports with content deals such as Olympics in hand. “Because we own the sports content for both linear and digital, I’ve begun to think of this as an opportunity to build a Netflix for sports in Europe,” Zaslav said.

Discovery has also pushed into direct-to-consumer with Dplay and Eurosport Player services in Europe, outside of sports and aims to take up on D2C as well.
