India Ratings and Research states that traditional cable companies are slowly joining the growing OTT video-on-demand trend and planning to launch their own OTT platforms to gain this momentum. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the total broadband subscribers were 159 million and wireless telecom subscribers were 1.1 billion as of May 2016.

The Frost and Sullivan market insight on the OTT video market in India from 2016 found out that there are about 66 million unique video viewers in India every month, with over 1.3 million OTT paid video subscribers. Certain MSOs such as Asianet Satellite Communications Ltd. have launched their OTT VOD services and some such as Hathway Cable Datacom are planning to launch OTT soon.
