HBO will launch its stand alone OTT service in Spain along with Pablo Sorrentino’s The Young Pope, within the next few weeks. After expanding to the Nordic countries in 2012, HBO has been planning this move from a year long and finally reaches Spain sometime in November with an intention to test the European market.
The service will initially be available for Vodafone customers, hoping to drive viewers by the appeal of a variety of interesting content. However, popular series such as Game of Thrones will also be aired by Movistar+, which bought the rights before HBO’s Spain move.
