iPlayer boosts 37% due to Summer Sports

BBC, the video streaming platform has reported an increase of 37% in summer iPlayer compared to the same period in last year, thanks to the major sporting events this year. The broadcaster experienced an average of 16 million unique browsers a week in June, July and August in this year. The live coverage of major sporting events such as Wimbledon, The Euros, Glastonbury, and The Olympics has helped BBC huge.

During the week ending August 14, the live coverage only scored 46% of the viewing time. iPlayer has recently announced the roll out of ‘Live Restart’ on mobile and tablet apps for iOS and Android. The BBC is also set to roll out ‘visual seeking’ for the iPlayer TV and its mobile apps in the coming year.
