MX Player, the popular video playback app, launches its OTT platform in India to capture a wider customer-base of the VOD market. With five original web shows, under the banner of “MX Original Series”, the brand is ready to compete with the leading video streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
As MX Player already has an engaged user base in India (175 Million monthly users), it is expected that the introduction of video streaming services will be an added advantage for the brand.
At present, MX Player’s contents are ad-supported and free to all the customers. Also, the company announced to create 20 more original shows in several Indian languages in the next 12 months.
For the uninitiated, Times Internet acquired MX Player for $144 million back in June last year. And now, MX Player is the only Indian entertainment platform offering both online video streaming and offline video playback facilities, in a single app.
