A recent study by the EY consultancy revealed that the number of Italians who use OTT services has reached 19.1 million in June 2017 as compared to 16.2 million in September 2016. That’s a growth of 18% in less than a year.
The number of Italian users who pay for OTT content amounts to 4.3 million. The remaining users (17.7 million) access free OTT content, mainly on YouTube, RaiPlay, Mediaset.it, DPlay and La7.it.
Among the paid OTT platforms, Netflix has 800,000 subscribers, followed by TIM Vision (Telecom Italia) with 600,000 subs, Infinity (Mediaset) with 300,000 and NOW (Sky Italia) with 250,000. Amazon Prime entered the Italian market in 2017 and is yet to make a mark.
