Mike Hopkins is leaving Hulu to join Sony. He’ll report to new Sony Pictures Entertainment boss Tony Vinciquerra. Sony TV has been restructuring its leadership over the last year and this move comes as no surprise.

Mike is being replaced by Randy Freer, the COO of 21st Century Fox who interestingly has been colleagues with him at Fox.

Hulu is jointly owned by Fox, Disney, and Comcast, which have traditionally used the service as a place to show their reruns, Hopkins took over Hulu four years ago, and he focussed on building up original programs to rival Netflix.

This year, Hulu also launched its own version of an “over the top” pay TV service, which offers live and recorded TV; at $40-a-month and has more than 300,000 subscribers already.
