Bibin is a vital part of Muvi as he continues to serve the role of the Director of Product Management and Application Design with dedication. His composed and helpful attitude makes him quite popular amongst the teams. He is with the Muvi family for 5 years and it has been an eventful, memorable and pleasant journey with him.
Recently, we caught up with him over a virtual coffee, and the chit chat that followed was truly memorable! Here’s what he had to say.
1. You joined MUVI as a fresher Product Manager. What made you choose MUVI at the beginning of your career?
Because of my interest in entrepreneurship and creating products, I wanted to get into product management. That’s when I got the opportunity to join Muvi as a part-time PM while I was still in college. Muvi’s flexibility in such a working arrangement and the focus on building streaming-focused products made it a great fit for me.
2. From joining as a fresher to becoming Director of Product Management & Application Design, what do you think has changed the most in you?
What has changed most is how I spend my time. As an early individual contributor PM, the focus was mostly on requirement specification and execution. Now it is mostly on product strategy, people management, and process improvements. I think it has gradually developed my leadership, decision-making, and people skills.
3. What were some of the biggest challenges or turning points in your journey, and what did they teach you?
During my transition into the current role, the entire product and dev team were in the middle of the Muvi7 Merged CMS project. It was a high-stakes and complex project that involved migrating all our products from independent interfaces to a common merged interface. I had to keep up the pace by learning about all the products, features, and teams in a very short time. It was a rocky start. I believe the most important skill to develop is to “learn to learn”.
4. Was there a particular project, responsibility, or person at MUVI that played a significant role in your growth?
In terms of people, it’s obviously Anshuman Das (Founder, CEO), my previous managers (Nikhil Gupta, Shubham Agrawal), my buddy (Swagat Mishra), and all my teams who trusted me with high-impact responsibilities. Their guidance has helped me do better every day. Another major aspect is Muvi’s work culture that rewards work ethic, initiatives, and ownership. It’s commendable!
5. What advice would you give to a fresher or young MUVIan who wants to build a long-term and successful career here?
My primary recommendation is to learn and apply the Work Culture. If you are in product management, learn and apply the PM SOP as well. These documents cover aspects from high-level philosophies to operational best practices that can be applied across work and life. I kind of live by it 🙂
6. If you could meet your Day-1 self, what would you tell him about the journey ahead?
Embrace uncertainty; always be curious.
