Roshan Dwivedi Published on : 19 May 2016

According to a leaked report obtained by EurActiv.com, the European Commission will soon ask online video streaming services like Netflix to offer at least 20% European content. It is expected to be revealed on 25th May. Policy changes on e-commerce and geo-blocking is also expected. Under the new directives, countries in the EU can force video streaming services to invest in European TV shows and movies production too.

Netflix already has more than 20% European content in its library, though not in all local languages. The document “may include selecting the time of the broadcast, age verification tools or other technical measures”.
