According to a recent survey conducted in India, some 6% of the Indian urban population accesses content from OTT services on a daily basis and some 24% on weekly basis. Rising number of smartphones is playing a vital role in driving OTT penetration in the country, said the survey report. Smartphones currently hold only 29 % penetration in India.
The report also added that more than 50 % of the viewers still prefer TV as the first screen for viewing any type of media content and some 75 % of the audience prefer free streaming services with ads as they are already paying for the internet.
