Netflix started as an online DVD rental service in 1997 , later it switched to a subscription model and in 2007 revamped itself as a streaming service with 7.48 million subscribers.
As per a report from Statista that number has grown to 104 million global subscribers in Q2 of 2017.
It has been the reason for the shudown of movie rental stores like Blockbuster. Today it is heavily investing in original content and has top ranking shows like House of Cards that are hugely popular. Netflix is now available in 190 countries and is valued at $75 billion.
