Cars and smartphones go hand in hand nowadays. A recent research claims the wireless links between cars and mobile devices have led music streaming services and podcast to be the first choice over the traditional radio service.

The study claims one in six drivers now chooses to listen to a podcast, audiobook, or downloaded or streamed music playlist while behind the wheel, compared with only one in 12 people five years ago. Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto are only fuelling the trend.

Interestingly the study also claims that physical formats are gradually declining with only 11% of drivers listening to hard formats of audio such as CDs, compared with more than a quarter (27%) five years ago.
