In the third quarter of 2017, Middle-East and North Africa (MENA) is reported to have amassed 1.6 million subscribers on an SVoD platform. According to the report by Dataxis research, this represents a growth of 19% as compared to the previous quarter.
The arrival of Netflix helped raise awareness on the SVOD model in the region, and the prevalence of telecom operators offering bundled plans are the major growth drivers. The growth, however, has been mainly observed in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Kuwait.
