Convergent packages and Telefonica’s video on demand streaming service Movistar TV are driving the growth of the pay-TV market in Spain reaching 5.1 million subscribers as of December 31st 2014, with 345,000 additions (325,000 on IPTV) in the last quarter.
The latest report from the regulator CNMC reveals that the quintuple play (convergent packages with mobile and fixed telephony, mobile and fixed broadband connections and pay-TV) are becoming very popular gaining 303,000 new subscribers in the last quarter totalling 2.2 million subscribers. 63.2 per cent of all pay-TV subscribers enjoy a convergent package (pay-TV service plus one, two or three other services).
