Cable can take on Telecom companies in the advent of broadband and OTT platform popularity by adopting DOCSIS 3.1 technology. This will allow download speeds of 10 Gbit/s and 2 Gbit/s for uploads. Considering the fact that the smaller cable companies are joining services like Netflix and Hulu, and bigger companies are creating their own streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, it will be imperative to see which one is more successful in the end run. Cable is losing viewers to video streaming services increasingly. Cable’s business will decrease unless newer and modern hybrid set tops are adopted by operators soon.
