Apple Aims to Simplify Streaming with a unified “TV” App

Arriving through a software update in December, Apple’s new “TV” app is an amazing thing for streamers in the US. Yes, it is named as “TV” and it works in tune with Siri, so, users just speak, and stream shows and movies across their entire library, across apps.

And it is not only an Develop Apple TV app, it works across iPhone and iPad also. Cool isn’t it… “The future of TV is Apps,” says Apple and keeps proving it… “TV” is a centralized system app for Apple users that recommends them shows that they’re most likely to watch, across different apps that they’ve subscribed to, along with their iTunes content, using a unified login feature.

Apple gave an “Up Next” feature to the app that allows viewers to see the next episodes of the show they’re watching from all and any OTT app they’ve subscribed to. Viewers will also be able to pick up from where they left off using this feature.

Another feature that Apple’s TV app brings is a human curated “Recommended” section where viewers can discover a range of content from iTunes library under categories such as kids, drama, sci-fi and comedy. The TV app even has a “Library” section where viewers see all their iTunes purchases and rental collection in one place and a “Store” section where they can discover an entire range of new content from video services that they’ve not yet downloaded or subscribed to, along with latest from iTunes.

Through the event, Apple also showcased how viewers can just speak “Watch ESPN” or “What other football games are on now?” and start Live Streaming of any channel with the help of Siri’s search capabilities.

Hey Wait.. What?? Netflix isn’t In..!! Oh, they’re evaluating the opportunity and this might change in future.. But for now, viewers won’t find Stranger Things, or the new season of Black Mirror in Apple’s new “TV”, but yes everything else from Hulu, HBO Now, iTunes and others. Amazon Video has also never been a part of Apple TV. But Hey, Roku does it. Viewers can access anything from Amazon to Netflix inside Roku app and can even sort their results by price. So, the question is…Is Apple trying to be the new Roku in our households? Possibly…

Anyways, we’re yet to see how Apple promotes its own content among competition, and how prominently it incorporates iTunes into viewers’ recommendation list over other third-party content, when the TV App actually rolls out in December.

Till then a new door of opportunity opens for video streaming platforms like Muvi with this release from Apple, to keep pace with the announcements and make their future Apps compatible with such apps like Apple’s “TV”.

Muvi has always enjoyed staying up-to-date with such releases, so that we don’t miss on anything, neither do you, nor your viewers…

Stay Streaming.. 🙂
