Alibaba to offer OTT Video Service in India

Roshan Dwivedi Published on : 19 January 2018

According to a report, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba is preparing to launch an (over-the-top) OTT video service in India. Alibaba is eyeing a joint venture with Paytm and mobile internet subsidiary UCWeb. Alibaba, which is also an investor in Paytm is planning to make the deal happen in the coming three months.

In an official statement, Alibaba quoted, “India is key in our globalization strategy and we are committed to growing our existing businesses in this market in the long term.”

Alibaba’s content-based products such as UCWeb and We-Media use user-generated content. So being a partner, the OTT video service from Alibaba is expected to use user-generated content. In We-Media too, users can post their own content in the form of photos, videos, and articles etc.
