Amazon is all set to introduce its own branded smart television and reach wider households. Touted to be a conscious decision of a pay-TV attack on popular network Sky, with smart TVs, Amazon will certainly have an edge over its competitors since its OTT platform Prime Video is growing exponentially all over the world.
If reports are to be believed, the television is developed alongside a group of Chinese manufacturers including Huawei, is being confidentially tested by DTG, the industry body that maintains Britain’s digital terrestrial broadcast technical standards.
It may be noted that Amazon has turned to broadcast technology after its attempts to convert its subscription streaming service Prime Video into a viable alternative to satellite or cable pay-TV fell flat. It has failed in its quest to poach customers from Sky and Virgin Media as BBC and other leading mainstream channels did not extend support.
