4G mobile internet is a big bet for telecom operators and content owners alike in India. Coupled with smart devices, video streaming to the masses is expected to gradually increase. There are already 66 million unique video viewers and around 1.3 million paid OTT subscribers. What’s unique here, is the demand for short videos. Some startups are experimenting by providing curated content along with free hotspots at public places and transport, where people have the time to watch videos. The need for on-the-go content is a driver to this.
