Amazon, Twitter & Facebook are after IPL Media Rights

Thanks to the decreasing data rates, online videos are getting popular in India. The The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the invites to tenders for India’s most viewed cricket league – the Indian Premier League (IPL)’s media rights. The tender opens this Sunday and closes on October 25th.

IPL ranks sixth in the world among all sports leagues. It became the first sporting event worldwide to be broadcasted live on YouTube. Various media giants such as Amazon India, Reliance Jio, Twitter and on latest, Facebook has reportedly joined to queue to acquire IPL media rights.

Sources state that Facebook has made the payment of $10,000 for acquiring the tender document. The rights will be distributed starting 2018 for the next 5 and 10 years.
