Streaming services have completely changed the dynamics of the media & entertainment industry in UAE. With more & more millennials opting for on-demand video streaming services, the traditional TV sector is expected to disappear over the next 5-7 years.
Maaz Sheikh, Starz Play, CEO said: “Traditional TV will phase out once millennials become the decision makers at home. Around 80 percent of Starz Play’s audiences are under 34 and between 18-25 years old”.
In 2014, the on-demand video streaming subscribers surpassed the traditional TV connections in UAE. And as per 2018 HIS market report, the OTT subscriptions in MENA region is expected to grow by 80 fold from 2013, within the next five years.
