American online streaming platform, Netflix is prepping to expand its local Indian content library with the focus on original feature films over the next year. The VOD streaming company is keen on acquiring movies that are already released in theatres.

Erik Barmack, Vice-President, International Originals, Netflix quoted, “We have a plan where we are expanding our originals initiative in India to not just do more web series, but also more films. Our goal is to get eight to 10, maybe 12 films that are originals, produced and delivered per year”.

The (over-the-top) OTT video service will take the route of original local content to strengthen its presence in the Indian market where players like Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar are making the online streaming market highly competitive.
