Streaming giant Netflix and Indian Telco spearhead Reliance Jio are in talks to collaborate where the former would share its entire content catalog of titles to Jio in return for a royalty fee or that the online streaming service will choose to make select locally relevant content available to Jio. The deal as per reports also includes the Netflix originals.

If the plan works out, then it will be a major boost for Netflix as it will reach to Jio’s 170 million subscribers. Netflix has been lagging behind in India all thanks to its premium subscription fee. According to a December 2017 report by Counterpoint Research, Netflix has 5 million monthly active subscribers in India and is the fifth largest video streaming platform behind services such as Hotstar, Voot, Amazon Prime Video and Sony Liv.

Currently, Hotstar is the most popular online video streaming service platform in India with a whopping 75 million subscriber base.
